Holly Bower

Holly Bower began her baking career in Seattle at age 13. For two years she and her best friend operated a "bread route," eventually baking 60 loaves of bread every Sunday in her mother's kitchen and delivering them in a picnic basket to their Madrona neighboorhood customers. In 1978 she opened Holly B's Bakery on Lopez Island, where she lives with her husband, Andre Hirss, and sons Ty, Rom, and Galen.

With Love & Butter
An Island Cookbook and Memoir
Favorite Recipes from Holly B's Bakery on Lopez Island

Seattle transplant Holly Bower opened the beloved Holly B's Bakery in Lopez Village over two decades ago. Now a fixture, it's the place island locals and visitors to Washington's beautiful San Juan Islands go to enjoy luscious handmade pastries and scones, tasty beguettes, and cookie treats--all made with fresh, seasonal ingredients, lots of butter, and a warm heart.

With Love & Butter shares the recipes for all the favorite bakery goodies, including French Bread, Fruit Scones, Almond Butterhorns, Cappucino Bars, Rugelach, Poppy Seed Custard Torte...and, of course, Holly B's famous Cinnamon Buns. Along the way, Holly tells the story of this gentle island, where wild roses line the roadsides, and how she and her husband came to fulfill their dream of opening a country bakery.
