Doris Burn
Doris “Doe” Burn wanted to live on an island since she was nine years old. She was born in Portland, Oregon and attended the Universities of Oregon, Hawaii and Washington where she received her degree before she found her island home in the San Juans. Her four children, Robin, Mark, Cameron and Lisa, attended the island’s one-room schoolhouse where she taught at one time. She now has thirteen grandchildren who share her love of “the islands”.

| Andrew Henry’s Meadow was written in 1965 on Waldron Island, a part of the San Juan Islands. The antics of her son Mark provided the inspiration for the story. Waldron had no electricity, telephones, running water or stores of any kind. Everything was brought to the island on the mail boat from the mainland. |
